5 Things You Need to Know Before Building A DIY Mini House Kit

Over the Christmas holidays, my mom and I tackled this little mini house DIY kit. It's a cute bedroom that we customized and it took 3 days to complete. But the truth is we were working on it and then off doing other things and then would come back.

Now these are the things I wish I knew before I started.

  1. Make sure you have good lighting // This is a no brainer! But you'll want to have good lighting when you're putting your house together so that you don't miss any spots to paint or glue.

  2. Take your time // Unless you're on the tv show Biggest Little Competition, take your take. The faster you go the more problems you'll have to fix. For example, you'll want to wait till the glue is dry before you start building or painting. Trust me, you do not want your pieces you just glued to fall apart after you paint them.

  3. Follow the directions // There should be a master blueprint paper that has all the pieces with their corresponding numbers so that you don't have a hard time locating the pieces you need. Some kits will have detailed instructions and some will just have photos. You can create any element out of order. Be sure to look at all your kit's contents before you start opening up the different bags.

  4. Leave your kit out until you're done // I told my husband that if I wanted to actually finish this sooner rather than later that I would have to leave this kit out. I once started a different kit and put it away and never opened it back up. Then while cleaning, I found the box but noticed pieces were missing. It was really disappointing. It's nice to have a little spot to work at if you got one.

  5. Get creative // You don't need to use the paint or paper in your kit. You can add your own photos and materials to the project like I did. It was a lot of fun to make it my own.

I hope you give mini houses a try. They're not just for kids. I can honestly say that I was so relaxed while working on it and I love the way it turned out.
